In a surprising turn of events, archaeologists have unearthed a rare 1900-year-old mosaic in Durrës, Albania’s oldest city. The discovery occurred during routine excavation work for a high school reconstruction project, adding another layer to the city’s rich historical tapestry.

Led by Professor Luan Perzhita, the excavation revealed a stunning 60-square-meter mosaic adorned with intricate geometric and floral patterns. Crafted from dark blue and white stones, this masterpiece once graced the floors of a luxurious Roman villa near the famous Durrës amphitheater.
