In 1958, an ordinary day turned extraordinary for a farmer in the Yunuslar village of Beyşehir, Konya. While tending to his fields, he stumbled upon what would become one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Turkey – a high-relief sarcophagus depicting the legendary Twelve Labors of Heracles.

This exquisite sarcophagus, dating back to the Roman period (220-260 AD), is a testament to ancient artistry. Weighing a staggering 8 tons and measuring 250 cm in length, 130 cm in width, and 170 cm in height, it is considered the finest example of high-relief technique ever unearthed. Today, it stands as the crown jewel of the Konya Archaeological Museum.

After a moment of Hera-induced madness caused Heracles to commit unspeakable acts against his own family, he sought redemption through service to King Eurystheus. The king, fearing Heracles might claim his throne, assigned him twelve seemingly impossible tasks, hoping they would lead to the hero’s demise.
